About

This site is meant to serve as a ressource on the cinemas of Southeast Asia, a fascinating, yet little known area of world cinema. Read the comprehensive introduction to this blog here.

This site is maintained by Dr. Tilman Baumgärtel.

I write on film and media for newspapers, magazines and academic publications, and I have written and edited seven books, including a monography of the German director Harun Farocki, and books on internet art, computergames and the cinema of Southeast Asia. And a cook book… :)

I am currently teaching at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in the Department of Media and Communication. From 2004 to 2009 I taught at the Film Institute of the University of the Philippines, Manila.

More on me on my website.

You can contact me at mail @ tilmanbaumgaertel dot net…

Feel free to download my book Kino Sine.

I am very proud of the magazine project that I recently did with my students at the Department of Media and Communication: KON. The Cinema of Cambodia.

Some of you might be interested in the website of a conference on media piracy in Southeast Asia I did at the University of the Philippines when I was teaching there.
