When I was at the Hong Kong Film Festival last month (goes to show how much time I have to update my blog these days), I found this little booklet at a counter of the Film Art Market. that contained synposis’ of movies by directors from all over Asia. It turned out that all these film makers pitched their new projects to potential buyers, so we have a relatively comprehensive list of movies that independent directors in the region are working on.

It is not as much a scoop, as I orginally thought, since all the info is freely available on the website of the Hong Kong Asia Financing Forum (HAF), but it nevertheless makes for an interesting reading. Tan Pin Pin (Singapore Gaga) is working on her first narrative film based on a script by Singaporean bad boy Alfan Sa’at, and there are other proposals bei Sherman Ong (Malaysia), Ekachai UEKRONGTHAM (Thailand/Singapore) for a film on the legendary Siemese twins Chang and Eng, NGUYEN Phan Quang Binh (Vietnam), Lee CHATAMETIKOOL (Thailand), HO Yuhang (Malaysia) and Sherad Anthony Sanchez, who won one of the two HAF awards.

A list of all the particiants is here, the booklet with extensive material on the movies that I found at the festival is here, a press release on the winner of the forum is here. Do not miss the description of the project by Suzuki Seijun about the love affair between a middle-aged writer and a young woman that is really a goldfish. Why didnt he get any award?
