Saint Jack City Tour

December 1, 2009

Singapore´s downtown has become so dull and so gentrified in the last couple of years, that it might sense to start offering city tours to places where something of interest used to be before it was replaced by a Shopping Mall or a condo. In a way, Ben Slater did just that with his tour of locations of Peter Bogdanovich´s low budget movie Saint Jack about an American pimp in the Lion City  that was produced by Roger Corman and Hugh Hefner and shot by Robbie Mueller.

Slater wrote a book about the first Hollywood movie that was shot exclusively in the rather sleazy Singpaore of the 1970s, that ironically was not allowed to be screened there until quite recently. The tour looks like fun, if we are to believe the accounts from A  Nutshell Review, Too many thoughts, and Rated G.

Today was even able to track down Bogdanovich for a phone interview.
